Men are notorious for dragging their feet when it comes to going to the doctor. For this reason, a lot of the early signs of cancer can be missed when it comes to men and their health. Although these signs could also be signs of something else, it is a good idea to keep an eye out for them and get them checked out, especially if they occur with other worrying symptoms as well.
1. Changes in breasts
Men don't often consider breast cancer as being a risk for them, since breast cancer is a cancer that is more commonly discussed and detected when it comes to women. However, it is important for men to keep this cancer risk in mind as well, because men are also at risk for getting breast cancer. Men should keep an eye out for changes in the skin around their breasts, especially skin dimpling, nipple retraction, redness, and nipple discharge.
2. Changes in testicles
Testicular cancer is the most common cancer for men, and most commonly occurs in men between the ages of 20 and 39. It is best for men to get regular prostate exams, as this is the best way to catch testicular cancer. Most doctors recommend that men do regular self exams as well.
3. Changes in the lymph nodes
Swollen lymph nodes often signify a minor illness, because they tend to get swelled up when we are sick. But if this is accompanied by other serious symptoms, it is a good idea to go to the doctor for a check up. Lymph nodes can become swollen if you have cancer too. If you notice a lump in your lymph node, get to the doctor right away because this is a symptoms that should be checked out immediately.
4. Losing weight without trying
Although it is normally easily for men to lose weight than women, it is important for men to be on the lookout for any weight loss that occurs without reason. So if you are eating the same as you normally do and getting the normal amount of exercise but are still losing weight, you should head to the doctor right away to see if something could be wrong.
5. Constant fatigue
Although fatigue can be a symptom of a lot of different things, constant and severe fatigue lasting over a long period of time can be a symptom of something very serious. If you have fatigue that you can't control, you should consider heading to the doctor to get a physical and a check up.
Although most of these symptoms can also be symptoms of something else, when they occur together, or are severe or long-lasting, you should always go to the doctor to get things checked out.
